Dealing with changes in substrates

A large European supermarket house brand with operations in Thailand approached us at Transam with a pressing issue. They were facing smudging on their meat packaging, after they switched over to Corona treatment for their plastic packaging.

What is Corona treatment? Bearing no relation to coronaviruses, corona treatment was invented by the Danish engineer Verner Eisby in 1951. It is commonly applied to plastic packaging to increase the surface energy of the material. The factory found that after they switched to corona treated plastic, they ran into problems with their ribbons in the printing process. Smudges began to appear, and was made worse upon moisture contact from the raw meat products.

At Transam, we have a wide expertise in dealing with many coatings and substrates. Transam stepped in to assist, and after a short sample review process, a wax ribbon offering consistently high image quality at a competitive cost was found for the customer. The smudge issue was also eliminated.

In addition, the ribbon supplied is completely food safe, bringing their products fully in line with label regulations listed in the Thai Food Act of B.E.2522 (1979) and Notification No.194 of the Ministry of Public Health (B.E.2544). On a daily basis, we work with customers to overcome challenges like these. If your production line requires a ribbon to match your substrate/coating, let Transam work with you to fulfill your Thermal printing requirement.
